Rockhampton lies 40km from the mouth of the Fitzroy River, just north of the Tropic of Capricoirn, and is the traditional home of the Darumbal Aboriginal people.
The Dreamtime Cultural Centre is Australia's largest Cultural Centre and is set on more than 12 hectares of land, with native plants, trees and waterfalls.
The Rockhampton region also has many renowned festivals such as the annual Multicultural Festival, CQU Open Day and the annual "Big River Jazz", a 3 day festival showcasing a variety of jazz bands.
The central business district, particularly Quay Street and East Street, is one of Australia's most elegant streetscapes. The highlights of this area include beautiful old buildings, tree lined streets, malls and the Fitzroy River.
Located in Rockhampton's north-eastern suburbs, Mt Archer National Park provides magnificent views of the city, and showcases a spectacular range of native Australian flora and fauna.
