University English Centres Australia (UECA) is a network of Australian universities offering a variety of English Language Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS), TESOL teacher training and professional development programs.
Founded in 1998, UECA members continue to provide a wide range of university preparation programs that give students the academic and linguistic platform required to study at some of the top universities in Australia.
UECA members offer English language pathways that articulate international students directly to Foundation Studies (high school equivalent), Diploma programs (first year undergraduate programs), Bachelor programs and Post-graduate programs (Master and Doctorate level). Their centres also offer programs in academic and general English including English for business and work, teacher training and test preparation (IELTS, CAE, FCE, TOEFL iBT, PTE, OET and BULATS). UECA colleges also tailor English language programs based on specific requests e.g. Study Tours and Study Abroad programs.
UECA offers partner universities an opportunity to:
UECA organises annual international marketing missions to multiple markets to promote the network's English language centres and their programs. It works closely with Austrade and partner universities to conduct demonstration lessons, student promotional events, partner university workshops, brainstorming sessions and B2B networking events in key offshore markets. In 2013, UECA’s marketing missions focused on ASEAN countries including Vietnam and Thailand, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia, and are explanding to include Colombia, Brazil and Chile in 2014.
The Professional Development Fest is designed especially for early career, experienced and master level teachers. The annual PD Fest provides an opportunity for teachers to share ideas and teaching techniques and strategies to build an engaging curriculum. It also explores issues facing the industry and discusses opportunities for career development. UECA works closely with peak bodies such as English Australia on this event.
Through the sponsorship of the English Language Teaching (ELT) Research Workshops and Symposia at regional conferences such as CamTESOL, Cambodia, UECA has facilitated the meeting and networking of international researchers in the field of ELT. Through discussions and by providing training to emerging regional researchers, UECA has created multi-lateral opportunities for international collaborations in research in ELT.
